If you live in Glasgow, at some stage on your travels you will have seen a Mears van, as Mears are one of the UK’s leading service providers to both the public and private sector with over 12,000 employees. They offer housing management, regeneration and build new homes, working with clients to help shape better places. I visited Mears last year to photograph some of their apprentices, and also a new way they had developed to dispose of paint at recycling centers, but recently I was asked to accompany some of their staff into Glasgow as they were distributing clothing and ‘help packs’ to some of Glasgow’s homeless at one of the regular evening soup-kitchens.
I was quite humbled by this as the Mears staff were doing this in their own time, supported by the donations from the Mears staff and the company. I was also humbled by the volunteers who were manning the soup kitchen, as for someone like me, this was a part of the city that I knew existed but had never witnessed with my own eyes. I cant post to many pictures here, but here are just a few.
